North America is linked to the South by the Pan-American highway, but in the middle of the route, there is a gap stretching 100 kms between Panama and Columbia : the Darien. This area of land is an impenetrable jungle, road building would be hugely expensive and difficult, and so far no political consensus regarding this missing link in the route across the Americas has been achieved. Yet for millennia people and merchandise have been crossing the Darien Gap. Today, many of these crossings, via rivers and dirt tracks, are illegal. Drug dealers make the hazardous journey across, but also their victims, indigenous people fleeing from the havoc caused by deforestation, drug related violence and civil war in Columbia. They join peasants, entrepreneurs, gold miners, adventurers, and hunters loo...
This spectacular video, courtesy of BirdingAdventuresTV, gives an incredible perspective of the Canopy Family's newest eco-lodge, the Canopy Camp, in the heart of eastern Panama's remote province, Darien. Canopy Camp Darien features comfortable African safari-style tents on raised platforms, open-air dining and common areas, alongside mature lowland rainforest full of regional avian specialties and incredible biodiversity. www.canopytower.com
Spanish/Nat Hundreds of Cuban refugees were repatriated from Panama Wednesday. They are part of the eight and a half thousand refugees people who left Cuba last summer and were given temporary refuge in Panama City. They were flown to the U.S military base at Guantanamo Bay on the southern tip of Cuba. The Cubans, guarded by 50 U.S. soldiers, were the first of about 500 being returned Wednesday , the first day of a program to remove them from Panama. Twelve hundred U.S. troops have been flown to Panama to provide extra strength for the unpopular operation. Since September, nearly eight and a half thousand Cubans who fled their country on rafts and inner tubes have slept in military cots in camps surrounded by chain-link fences topped with razor wire. Most are ang...
Too cheap for a flight or a party boat, my girlfriend and I took the lesser-used local options. This is our trip. The journey was: An overnight bus to Turbo, Colombia; a 2-hour boat to Capurgana, Colombia; a 1-hour boat to Puerto Obaldia, Panama; a 1-hour flight over the Darien Gap to Panama City. I think the total cost was about $200. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
Video from our trip to Morro Negrito surf camp in Panama. Really good waves all week at Sandbar, the river mouth, and at Emily's, a rocky point break. One week without crowds was nice. Sorry for taking so long to edit this out, I was busy. Music in order: Bleeds - Bishop Morocco The Keepers - Santigold All Fall Down - Camo & Krooked (I do not own nor claim to own the music used in this video. The music belongs to the artists that created it and all credit goes to them.)

Camping in San Blas, Panama I needed to bring things that campers usually bring. I forgot when you go camping you should bring a flashlight, toilet paper, baby wipes, malaria and yellow fever shots, and insect repellent. I highly recommend taking these items when travelling in Panama. I didn't take any shots in Panama, and I was fine. This tour was with http://www.panamatravelunlimited.com Thank you for following my travel journey of living on a permanent vacation with 3 weeks work, 1 week off.
